Lesson Plans: 7-9Grade: Secondary (9-12) Duration: 10 minutes Objective: A brief lesson on the meaning of resiliency and it's importance in life. Anticipatory Set : View video of Navajo artists creating intricate sand paintings that once finished and viewed for a short period, are completely erased. Procedure: (Wait 3 seconds, 1001, 1002, 1003) Maybe walk around the class. Ask the students "What do you think?" Let the answers flow and see where it goes. Some directive questions might include "Why spend so much time making such a beautiful art work, only to destroy it.?" Tell the class these sand paintings are not photographed. Closure: The Navajo sand paintings respresent the temporal nature of life and beauty. Life is going to offer many such experinences, many can not be safed or kept. We take the experiences, joyous and sad, move through them onto the next art, adventure and human relationships presented to us.
