Lesson Plans - K-3
Resiliency Lesson Plan- Cinderella
By Ali Norman
Review:
Make sure everyone has a good definition of resilience.
Resilience: to recover readily, as from adversity or illness.
Anticipatory Set:
Show
a few moments of any Disney movie, just enough to get the class
hooked.
Objective:
To
help the students realize that resilience is everywhere, and everyone has
it. Understand that life is full of times in which we must be
resilient.
Input and Modeling:
As
a group we will discuss the plot and brain storm ideas of other options
that the Prince had in Cinderella. He could have just given up and
waited for another beautiful girl to wed, instead he shows resilience and
searches for her, with only a glass slipper to go by. The goal is to
create an alternate plan for the Prince, instead of what really happened
in the movie. After a plan in created, show the movie clip of what
did happen.
Guided Practice:
Now
in four groups, take one movie and create a different solution for the
main characters’ problem.
- ·
The
Lion King- Scar and the hyenas have taken over Pride Rock.
· A
Bug’s Life- Grasshoppers are trying to take over the ant colony.
· Aladdin-
Jaffar has taken over Agrabah and is an all-powerful sorcerer.
· Toy
Story- Sid in planning to blow up Buzz Lightyear.
The new plans will be shared with the class. Then we will see what
the main character did to be resilient in the movie.
Independent Practice:
Go
home and talk with someone in you home and ask them to tell you a story
of someone either in your family or someone you both know that has done
something resilient. We will share stories tomorrow in
class.
A Bug’s Life
Problem:
Grasshoppers are trying to take over the ant colony.
What could Flick do, run away with the circus? After all he would
be safe with them.
Aladdin
Problem:

What could Aladdin do, take Jasmine and carpet ad fly to the nearest
city? They could be safe and happy there.
The Lion King
Problem:
Scar and the hyenas has taken over Pride Rock.
What could Simba do, go back to paradise? After all, he was safe
and happy there.
Toy Story
Problem:
Sid is planning to blow up Buzz Lightyear.
What could Woody do, give up? After all he isn’t the one who is
going to be harmed.
